Evaluation of Oxa for Breathing Monitoring
This paper validates the accuracy of Oxa's respiratory monitoring capabilities, including phase, rate, and tidal volume, compared to a medical-grade device (Quark CPET device from COSMED).
- Oxa was tested against gold standard spirometry and performed well at different breathing rates, challenging breathing exercises and even during sports. Oxa stayed within +-4% compared to spirometry.
- Smartwatches only provide average breathing rate, no live breathing signal. Also, especially for slow breathing rates (which is the case at rest, during meditation or during sleep), a widely used smartwatch was tested which estimated the breathing rate in average 2.5 times too high.
